Hooray for Summer!

Summer fun continues with trips to the park, fireworks, and more fun in the sun. This month is a great time to spend time in a nice cool library finding great books about summer, the desert, and summer treats.

1.) Just One More  Solo Uno Más by Jennifer Hansen Rolli

2.) I Need All of It by Petra Postert

3.) Birds by Kevin Henkes

4.)  Way Out in the Desert by T.J. Marsh

5.) Am I Small? By Philipp Winterberg

Activity

Do 3 Things

Your preschooler is learning to follow directions and to regulate themselves. These are both essential skills for when they enter kindergarten. You can help your child refine their listening skills and attentiveness by playing this fun game. The only thing you need for this game is a little imagination and space. As a fun variation give your child an opportunity to give you directions! This supports their development as a leader and promotes self-confidence.

In this activity you will support your child as they learn to follow multiple part directions.

Begin by explaining the game; you will give your child three instructions, once you give the instructions they will recall and carry them out.

Give your child three different directions

For example: “Put your finger on your nose, count to three, and make a silly face” or “Stand on one foot, close your eyes, and stick your tongue out”

Be sure to give your child a chance to give you directions too!

Learning Standards:

  • Language and Literacy: Language

  • Social and Emotional: Relationships

  • Physical Development, Health and Safety: Physical Development
